There are thousands of arcades on the web, why would you want to start one? Well if you market them properly then the revenue from adverts can be very pleasing. The problem for most web masters is that ad revenue only comes in very slowly so that on most occasions they sell their arcade before they have made back the money they invested into it in the first place.

Here I am going to tell you how to start a flash game site for as little money as possible. The post title is a bit ambitious however I believe that can be achieved although in my opinion a small investment is needed.

Domain and Hosting

Firstly you need a domain name and web hosting. This is where you need to invest a small amount of money. Pick a domain with words such as arcade, play, games, online or flash in it. Then use your current web host, or get a web hosting plan to host your website. I advise this as opposed to a free host due to the better service and speed you should get.

Games Script

You now need a games script that looks good and can allow you to implement adverts easily. I recommend AV Arcade. This script is free to use and comes with many games as well as loading games from other websites. Install the script on your website and then sign up to a Pay Per Click program such as AdSense so that you can display adverts on your website.

To ensure you get lots of clicks edit the template to suit your needs, changing the configuration of the adverts to place them where you think is best. Submit your new flash games site to web directories, social bookmarking and networking websites. Use groups and forums to link to your website to increase traffic and hopefully your revenue.

This means that you only have to get back your hosting and domain cost to be in profit. Whereas a webmaster paying for a script has to wait much longer due to income via clicks normally being slow to start off with.

Selling Up

After a while if you notice your clicks are dropping or want to sell your website, I advise you to wait at least three months. Many webmasters are just creating flash sites this way and then selling them on a week later claiming great potential with a bit of marketing. If you then want to sell then do so including traffic data and earnings.

Hosting is important for any website. I personally operated a web host last year so i know the ins and outs of the industry better than most. It was successfully sold last year due to my other commitments.

Finding yourself with a bad host it can effect traffic more importantly profits. A rule that i think you should follow is to find a host that is operating from your own country and has the servers located in the same country.

Another way you may wish to look at this is to choose a host in the same country as your targeted audience. This will provide them with fastest download times.

Do not be fooled by hosts that offer endless amounts of resources such as space and bandwidth. Your website is likely to use 25-50MB of disk space depending on its content. To start with it will not consume large amounts of bandwidth unless it is a video streaming website. Until visitor numbers increase it will not use excessive quantities of bandwidth.

Look for a host with a reliable up timerecord and good support. Unless you need Windows technologies such as active server pages i would recommend a Linux host as these tend to be cheaper and more common. In my opinion cPanel is a good control to look for due to it being easy to use.

If your website is selling something, I would suggest looking into security features such as SSL (https://) to increase buyer confidence by showing them your site is secure.

Check out hosting site forums and interact with other webmasters, get opinions and ask questions before selecting a web host. If the host you pick turns out to not provide a service level that you expect its relatively easy to change.
